Monique L. Fortin

(1943 - 2016)

Monique L. Fortin, 72, of Plymouth passed peacefully at her home on Monday, May 2, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born on October 23, 1943 in "le rang neuf" St. Ludger, Quebec. She was the daughter of Wellie and Emilienne Fluet. In 1963 Monique married and moved to the "Frog Hollow" section of Hartford where she met many lifelong friends. She spent most of her life living in East Hartford and working for Society for Savings Bank. Monique was loved by customers and co-workers and continued to meet annually with the "Glastonbury Girls". In 1997 Monique began the next chapter of her life marrying Jean Luc Fortin, combining their families and enjoying retirement, traveling, snowbirding in Florida and living life to its fullest with friends and family. Monique is survived by her husband, Jean Luc, and her children Yves LaPierre and his husband Steve Dube of Milwaukee, WI, Brenda LaPierre Gorman and her husband Bill Gorman of Guilford, CT, Annette (Fortin) Van Aken and her husband Lewis Van Aken, Diana (Fortin) Smith and her husband Joe Smith, and Danny Fortin and his girlfriend Nikki Hoxie. Monique loved being "Grandmaman" to her "petits-enfants": Haley and Billy Gorman, Jordan Van Aken, Cameron, Mackenzie and Maxwell Smith, and Savannah and Sawyer Fortin. She loved to teach them French and spend time with them. Monique is survived by her sister, Solange Morin of St. Gedeon; her brother-in-law Henri-Paul Maheux of St. Georges; sister-in-law Jacqueline Fortin of Bristol; She was predeceased by her sister Madeleine Maheux of St. Georges and brother-in-law Marcel Fortin of Bristol. The family would like to thank the Bristol Hospital Hospice team, especially nurse Katie, for their direction and support at the end of Monique's life. Memorial donations may be made to Carolyn's Place, 137 Grandview Avenue, Waterbury, CT 06708. Monique and Jean Luc were dedicated to Carolyn's Place where they spent countless hours volunteering. Funeral services for Monique will be held on Saturday (May 7, 2016) beginning at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave, Bristol, Connecticut 06010 at 9AM before continuing to St. Gregory Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM. Entombment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Funk Funeral Home on Friday (May 6, 2016) between 5 and 8 PM.
